“If you didn't know history, you didn't know anything. You were a leaf that didn't know it was part of a tree.”

History is an academic subject rich in powerful knowledge. It provides coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. History helps students to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

We aim to ensure that all students:

  • Gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world which helps to stimulate students’ curiosity to know more about the past.
  • Should learn to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, formulate arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
  • Understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

To further develop capital culture, History offers students a range of experiences outside of the classroom environment. These opportunities are designed to develop students’ learning experience and their cultural understanding of the world around them. Past experiences have included a GCSE History trip to Bodmin Prison Hitler on Trial and A Level trip to New York and Washington.

As historians, students will learn lessons from history to influence the decisions they make in their lives in the future.
