GCSE Results 2023

24th August 2023

Well done to the fantastic Year 11 - Class of 2023

Our congratulations go out to our Year 11 pupils who received their GCSE results today. It has been a day of celebration for so many. We are delighted that many will continue their journey with us at Coombeshead Academy Sixth Form College.

These pupils are our first cohort to study for their GCSE over two years rather than three. They have also followed a broader and more ambitious curriculum with 60% now studying the full EBACC (including either history or geography and either French or Spanish) through to Year 11.

Despite the disruption of the last few years, it is with the greatest pleasure that we have been able to see this group of pupils achieve their full potential.

We would like to mention a few key pupils for their notable success. Some of our highest performing pupils include:

  • Clara with an amazing set of results which includes nine GCSEs at grades 9 to 7. Clara will continue her studies at Exeter College. Reflecting on her time at Coombeshead she said that her time was ‘great’ and that she ‘felt supported all the way’. Well done Clara; we’re so proud of you.
  • A huge well done to Catriona with a mixture of 10 GCSE grades at 7 and 8 as well as BTEC outcomes at merit and distinction. Catriona has achieved a place at Torquay Girls Grammar School for her Sixth Form. Catriona said this morning ‘I’ve really enjoyed it at Coombeshead and the teachers have been great. They have been passionate about their subjects which helped me too’.
  • Holly May has achieved an outstanding set of results including grade 8s, 7s and 6s. She was really pleased by these outcomes as they were exactly what she hoped to achieve. Holly May will do A Levels at the Coombeshead Sixth Form College.
  • Joining Holly May in the Sixth Form at Coombeshead is Zander, Faith, Ben, Lilia and Sam. All these pupils have achieved top grades. Lilia said ‘I’ve had a really good time and I’ve learned a lot. Everyone really helped me through my journey’. Well done to you all.

Finally, I would like to thank our wonderful parents and carers who have done such an outstanding job ensuring that their children are able to leave school with the life chances needed to be successful. Thank you for all your support during home schooling. I would also like to thank the dedicated, hardworking and caring team of staff who have worked tirelessly to support the young people.

Congratulations to all our pupils.
