A Level Results 2022

18th August 2022

Congratulations to the Coombeshead Sixth Form class of ‘22

Congratulations to Coombeshead Sixth From students who have proved that hard work and determination lead to a fantastic set of results at A level and Level 3 BTEC.  We are especially proud of the resilience and fortitude they have demonstrated through the upheaval the last two years has had on their education.

Strong results in the challenging facilitating subjects including English, Mathematics, Sciences and Humanities will enable our students to progress to the next stage of their education with confidence and secure in the knowledge that they can achieve their goals.

We are delighted many of our students have secured places to study a variety of degree courses including English and Theatre studies at Warwick, games design at Falmouth, Nursing at Plymouth amongst many others.  Forensic science and related criminology courses have grown in popularity with our students, building on the success of our social science department who are celebrating excellent results this year.

BTEC candidates’ results were also a standout achievement this year, building on the success of previous years’ results with many of our students achieving the coveted Distinction * grade which is equivalent to an A* at A level in Performing Arts, Music, Sport & Fitness and Food and Nutrition. Several of our students are looking forward to taking up places at BIMM, Falmouth and Plymouth to pursue their dreams in music, acting and theatre studies.

Sport studies have always been a strength at Coombeshead, and our students will be going to Bournemouth and Cardiff to continue their studies within this field.

Our stand out A level candidates achieved grades which reflect their hard work and passion for the subjects they have studied.  Alex has been rewarded with A* D*AA and going to Falmouth University, Jasmine A*AAB and will be attending University of Warwick, Lois A*ABB is heading to Plymouth University and Sam with D*BC going to the University of Exeter.

As well as congratulating the students we would, as always, like to acknowledge the help and support given by parents and carers and the dedicated, supportive and professional teaching staff.

Nb: As you will be aware the government have been working to bring grades back into line with the 2019 national A Level results after two years of Teacher Assessed Grades. Summer 2022 will be a transition year to reflect that we are in a pandemic recovery period. There will be more generous grading of exams this year compared to a normal exam year. In 2023 results will return to be in line with those in pre-pandemic years.

What does this mean for summer 2022? As we move back to pre-pandemic standards, overall results will be lower than in 2021 when teacher-assessed grades were used, but higher than in 2019 when summer exams were last held. The approach exam boards take to grading will reflect a midpoint between summer 2019 and 2021. Very few schools or colleges, if any, will get higher results than in 2021.
